Based in Wangaratta Victoria, Luke R Davies sings his distinctive contemporary songs with a voice that is at once laconic and deeply affecting. Influenced by the blues, folk, and country sounds Luke’s song writing is sometimes edgy, sometimes humorous yet always topical.
Often performing with several homemade instruments made from recycled materials, Luke intrigues audiences with the sounds and stories of their incarnation. He formed the Recycled String Band in 2012 to showcase his unusual wares. It proved to be much more than a novelty act when the RSB’s debut album “not a note wasted” received the 2013 National Film and Sound Archive Folk Recording Award.
Luke is often called upon to accompany other artists with his fine harmonica playing and can be seen playing guitar, ukulele and a variety of stringed instruments.
Luke has performed solo, duo or with his band at many folk and music
festivals including; The National Folk, Port Fairy Folk, Illawarra Folk, Fairbridge, Yackandanda Folk, Maldon Folk, Cobargo Folk and the Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival and many
He has conducted workshops/courses on playing blues style harmonica at community colleges and festivals for some time. He also has conducted discussions and displays on constructing simple instruments from basic materials that have proved very popular.
